Artist Statement

Emily Jalinsky is an interdisciplinary printmaking artist primarily working in intaglio, relief, pen and ink, watercolor, and embroidery. Often, works on paper are delicately layered with found materials to create larger compositions, assemblages, and installations. Her recent work explores embracing one’s own spark to counterbalance life’s hardships. Unseen internal and external forces are given visual representations through semi-abstract organic imagery. Found and printed books reference creating one’s own sacred texts for contemplation. While continued use of ethereal gold, repetitive patterns, and depictions of lichen as a symbol of resiliency create a landscape for refuge. Achieving mindfulness amongst the chaos and balance within the dissonance.
