Artist Statement
Emily Jalinsky is a mixed-media artist primarily working with etching, pen and ink, watercolor, collage, and embroidery. Works on paper often feature delicate layers of collaged prints and found materials, forming larger compositions rich in intricate detail and texture. She explores moments of spark and tranquility within the inner landscape of the self, offering a counterbalance to the emotional and physical struggles of existence. Her work also references how book forms can serve as a guide to achieving a contemplative state. Recurring use of ethereal gold, repetitive patterns, circular motifs, and abstract portrayals of the natural world create sacred spaces for refuge so that one can achieve mindfulness amongst the chaos and balance within the dissonance.
